Pharmacy Residency Program

PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program Overview

 The Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) located in Montgomery, Alabama, was established in 2012 with the purpose of preparing clinical pharmacy specialists for patient care positions or to prepare to pursue specialty training in a PGY-2 pharmacy residency program. Pharmacy residents who complete the residency program are competent clinicians with the experience required to provide excellent patient care in the most advanced practice settings, hold leadership positions within pharmacy departments as well as local and national pharmacy organizations, and provide experiential education rotations for student pharmacists.

Pharmacy practice resident training will take place in a variety of settings, including inpatient wards and ambulatory care clinics. The program offers the resident opportunities to provide medication-related care for patients with a wide variety of conditions, teaching responsibilities, as well as participation in practice management activities with pharmacy leadership staff.
