On April 14, CAVHCS held a COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic and information fair at the Montgomery Alcazar Shrine to vaccinate Veterans, caregivers and spouses. Since implementing the SAVE LIVES Act, VA has been focused on vaccinating as many individuals as possible. The Alcazar Shrine was the perfect location to serve our Veteran community while expanding our sacred mission of caring for Veterans and those who care for Veterans. The result will save numerous lives while providing information and resources to Veterans and family members.
During the event, numerous information tables were available to highlight the many services and benefits available through VA, such as Whole Health, Vet Center, Intimate Partner Violence, Caregiver Support Program and the Homeless Veterans Program.
“As a disabled Veteran, I always look to the VA. My wife and I moved to Montgomery three weeks ago and the VA hospital was our first stop,” said U.S. Army Veteran Dan Shea. “I was able to immediately receive my vaccine, I received excellent treatment, and now I can get the vaccine for my wife.”
CAVHCS is vaccinating Veterans in all age groups who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and is currently administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
The SAVE LIVES Act was signed into law March 24, 2021, expanding the VA’s legal authority to provide COVID-19 vaccines to all Veterans, regardless of their VA health care enrollment status, as well as Veteran’s spouses, caregivers and some beneficiaries.
“We as Veterans learn over time to take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others,” said Shea. CAVHCS is a safe and welcoming place and it feels great. If you are not sure about the shot, I invite you to take one step. And that one step is to choose VA.”
