Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS)

Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System held a drive-by birthday parade for Army Veteran Dewey P. Williams to celebrate his birthday and to honor his sacrifice to our nation.

“No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people will, through their righteous might, win through to absolute victory.” -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

With these now-famous words, Roosevelt ensured victory to the American people and motivated soldiers to find the strength to overcome adversity after the attacks on Dec. 7, 1941. One of these motivated soldiers was 100-year-old World War II Army Veteran Dewey P. Williams.

CAVHCS held a drive-by birthday parade for Williams to celebrate his birthday and to honor his sacrifice to our nation.

“You have been a witness to countless experiences in our Nation’s history. Indeed, you played a significant role as a WWII Veteran and member of the revered Greatest Generation persevering through the Great Depression, political upheaval and an unprecedented war. Moreover, you are a living repository of the memories of family and friends and the triumphs and challenges of a life fully lived,” said Health System Director Amir Farooqi.

“I live right by myself. I look after myself, I do my cooking, I do my own washing. It just makes me feel real good. Makes me think that I’m really appreciated,” said Williams.
